Laployd Barton is a hamlet which was settled in medieval times with some mediaeval features still existing.
EmanuelHendry were asked to help restore the grade II* stable block which has been stylistically dated to the early 1600's.
Our job : to repair the existing jointed Cruck trusses ; reinstate the horizontal purlins and common rafters which were square pegged onto the purlins.
The roof was repaired to receive thatch (Devon reed wheat) as it was originally.
The beauty of this Devon building is it's many originally features such as doors and shutters, roof timbers and granite stonework but above all it was built as a stable block and had remained as one and will continue to do so for a long time to come.
